Designers: Hendrik Wijdeveld
Wijdeveld was a great admirer and tireless promoter of Frank Lloyd Wright’s work. In 1925, he dedicates an issue of Wendingen to Wright, for which he himself designs the cover. Wright claimed it was the most beautiful publication about his work that was ever published.
In 1931, he organizes the first exhibition of Wright’s work in the Netherlands in the Stedelijk Museum. A traveling exhibition that he brings to the Netherlands on Wrights request. Wijdeveld takes care of the design of the exhibiton and organizes a grand, stylish opening. He publishes studies that had never been translated before, dedicates an entire edition of the Dutch architectural journal Bouwkundig Weekblad to the exhibition, and designs posters and invitations. He also makes sure that the exhibition will travel to other European countries. Wright is a trailblazer and inspiration to Wijdeveld: ‘More than thirty years ago, he beat a path through the jungle of ”style tradition”, a path that we now travel by car.’
